“Dit is mijn Zoon, van wie Ik heel veel houd. Ik ben erg blij met Hem. Luister naar Hem.” Mattheüs 17:5
Van de triomfantelijke intocht te midden van de juichende menigte tot het intieme moment van de voetwassing van de discipelen, van de laatste maaltijd en het angstige gebed in de hof tot de verschrikking van de geseling en de bespotting van zijn koningschap…Jezus’ reis als mens liep ten einde.
Dit beeld stelt de doornenkroon voor die zijn wrede vernedering samenvat, de purperen mantel van het Romeinse Rijk en zijn absoluut gezag over de wereld.
Wanneer Hij zijn laatste woorden uitspreekt: “Het is volbracht, Vader, ik leg mijn geest in uw handen”, antwoordt zijn hemelse Vader met deze woorden: “Dit is mijn Zoon, die ik liefheb, in wie ik mijn welbehagen heb”, ze werden ook gehoord tijdens Jezus’ doopsel. Ze lijken overeen te komen met zijn laatste momenten aan het kruis.
Jezus’ lichaam, gebroken, onherstelbaar beschadigd en Zijn geest waren nu in de handen van Zijn liefhebbende hemelse Vader. Zijn geloof en liefde werden tot het einde toe op de proef gesteld. ….. Maar dit was nog maar het begin.
This is my son , whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matt. 17:5
From the triumphant entry , the rejoicing crowds , to the intimate moment of sharing with the disciples with the bowl and towel, the last supper and the anguished prayer in the garden, to the horror of the flogging and the mocking of his kingship. Jesus physical journey was coming to an end.
This picture depicts ,The crown of thorns summing up his cruel humiliation and the purple cloak of the Roman Empire and its absolute authority over the world .
The words , this is my son , whom I love , with him I am well pleased , we’re heard at Jesus baptism , but it also seems to fit his final moments on the cross, where , Jesus utters his own final words , “ it is finished , father into your hands I commit my spirit.”
That his father in heaven would respond with these words as he looked down on the form of his son.
Jesus body was broken and damaged beyond repair , his spirit was now in the hands of his loving father in heaven . His faith and his love tested until the end ….. But it was just the beginning .
